Marcela is a contemporary abstract painter whose practice explores movement, materiality, and the emotional experience of place. Drawing from nature, a Latin cultural heritage, and a nomadic life journey, the work reflects an ongoing dialogue between environment, memory, and gesture. Working primarily with acrylic on wood panels, the artist follows an intuitive, process-driven methodology using spatulas, mixed materials, and dynamic mark-making. The artist holds a degree in Business Administration from Universidad EAFIT in MedellÃn, Colombia, followed by a Master’s degree in International Business completed in Lille, France. The artistic journey began in 2004 at Academia Débora Arango in MedellÃn and continued through advanced training in multiple European ateliers, including Paris (France), Braine-l’Alleud (Belgium), and Cascais (Portugal). From 2019 to 2022, the artist studied Painting and Art History at the École des Arts de Braine-l’Alleud in Belgium, further developing a rigorous foundation in contemporary painting practices and historical context. In 2022, the artist began working with American painter Miles Laventhall. In 2023, the artist joined Laventhall’s Master Class Studio at the Boca Raton Museum of Art in Boca Raton, Florida, where the work was presented and developed within a professional museum setting.
